Will I get a good result if I drain and refill only 3 times ? I have a 12 pack
And is the plug in a position where I can briefly unscrew it with just a jack without getting under ? |

It's possible to drain the entirety of the 5-speed box, but you need to get at the oil from the cooler instead of through the drain plug.

No...you are wrong Mike. As you start the car, the oil from the torque converter gets pumped out through the oil cooler and out through the pipe you have connected. I have just done this, and the first 4 litres or so of oil is black and dirty. As you top up the box with new fluid, it eventually runs clean out of the oil cooler outlet.

That procedure also works for the four speed box as well, I should mention - the oil cooler design and pipes are nearly identical. Chris... |

My experience (and a really usefull post in general)
http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showth...=124622&page=4 I would definately advocate driving then draining a few times, i went through over 30L of ATF flushing using the gibbons method only to find that my ATF was brown again after a short drive due to mixing with what i hadn't got to in the Torque converter |
