If I may tag along to this thread please, I've just had two 225x50x17 Falken tyres fitted o the rear of the V70 D4. These replaced two similar size Avon tyres which are a) no longer manufactured but still available) and b) wearing out across the centre and inner edge.
The B pillar sticker suggests 32F & 30R but 38 all round for full loads, high speed and "eco".
The tyre fitter said the set all Volvo at 38.
I feel that running 38 when there's just one person in the car has contributed to heavy wear in the centre. it might be eco on fuel but more expensive on rubber. It runs full load maybe twice a year. Rest of the time it's pretty lightly loaded.
Am I wrong?

Mine wear very evenly at 38psi all round, even lightly loaded. And it's definitely, noticeably more economical. Worth getting full 4 wheel tracking done to be sure there's no "wonk" in the suspension settings. I always use a Hunter alignment centre not too far from me. I used to get bad inner edge wear, but that was massively improved by getting full tracking done. I'm on 245x40x18 Bridgestone Potenza S001 MO for the summer months.

Thanks, it was tracked last year by a Volvo Indie in Glasgow, shortly after I bought it. At the time the tracking was way out and had destroyed two tyres and the steering wheel was close to 30 degrees out of centre.
It's due another service, I'll get them to check it again.

I think 38psi is too high. I tried it a few times in my S80 and its too hard for my liking. Maybe the potholed roads don't help that...

I reverted to the "normal" pressures for light load (32psi in the front, 30psi in the back). Its never loaded and never driven at high speed.

I also have the falkens on the S80 at the mo, they have worn exactly the same. No other tyre has worn this way tho so I was putting it down to the tyre. They haven’t lasted very well at all really as there just over 2 years old and done less than 20k miles as I swap to winter wheels. But they were cheap.

The only thing I would say about the eco tyre settings is they give your alloys a lot more protection especially with the state of todays roads.

The problem there is you are likely to wreck a tyre AND wheel ( well over £1000 ) if you hit a deep pothole . try 36 psi ..

Hi, the new Falkens are the replacement for Avon ZV7. The local tyre fitters (not one of the countrywide companies) recommended the Falkens as a little harder wearing....
