It will just keep coming back until the problem is resolved, I've done a quick google on the swirl flap fault code and there's a fair few threads to have a read through, that's what I would be focusing on
one excerpt I saw went something along the lines of, swirl flaps, injectors are both involved in the dpf regen process so with those faults present it won't regen. thus you're piling on the problems for later if you don't get it done as a priority. or words to that effect this is just what I've read I don't have personal experience |

the swirl flap actuator dose a full sweep every 4/ 5 starts to keep the movement clear this may be why it comes and goes test each glow plug individually if all ok look at the connections on the relay or just replace it if found faulty ps working swirl flaps and working glow plugs all help with successful regens

OK thanks. I would like to do various things but want to get through the MOT first.
But thinking about it a bit more One of the constant codes is in the ECM ECM-500F Air condition - Faulty signal Q1. Could that be triggering the message and triangle? I have also seen this one more than once ECM-2690 Injector power stage, cyl 3 - Signal too high Googling further, this thread looks very interesting https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=266805 and mentions repair kits for the injector wiring (available from Volvo or Skandix etc) ========= Cable Repairkit Blade terminal sleeve Type B Tin 5,97 EUR 30765319 Cable Repairkit Blade terminal sleeve Type B 5,97 EUR 30765321 ========= so I will look at the injector wiring Q2. Can the car pass the MOT with the message and the orange triangle showing? Then, in what I think is a sensible order I would probably: test the injectors for leak back test each glow plug take the intake manifold off and clean it (and make sure the the swirl mechanism can move freely - fit new swirl if necessary) maybe send injectors away for testing Thanks all, Steve

as mentioned on the other thread
https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=340688 do we need to question the compatibility or wiring / adaptor for the MAF here just trying to rule things out before looking elsewhere |

Hi Stuart
There are 3 MAFs involved. All are Bosch 1. Original was Marked 0281 002 730 Marked Volvo 30 677 999 Internal Bosch sensor code marked 4320783 Housing is damaged, sensor is showing signs of having been glued in 2 out of 4 connection terminals are corroded 2. Used from ebay (cheap) without adapter cable Marked 0 281 006 184 Internal Bosch sensor code marked 34063116 I have not fitted this at any time. The ebay seller thought it was suitable but was not sure. 3. New Parts in Motion with adapter https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/234784571727 Marked 0 281 006 184 Internal Bosch sensor code marked 274289190 Described as compatible with Volvo part 30677999 I have fitted this and it works fine. ================== I have come to realise that the 0 281 006 184 refers to the Bosch MAF housing alone. Not the sensor insert. So even if I did have a cable, I have no way of knowing whether MAF 2 is suitable. (I haven't found any Bosch reference site). The cable from MAF 3 looks suitable, but because I don't know whether MAF 2 is suitable, I haven't fitted it. So currently I am just runnning MAF 3 Steve

Hi all,
From time to time, as I fix things, I have been clearing codes. (The previous owner had a bad battery and had jump started it many times, which I think generated many spurious codes). So far: Battery (fitted nearly new) MAF needed replacing (done) Cleaned intake hose leading to intake manifold (very coked up inside, done) Throttle housing needed cleaning (done) Thermostat was stuck open (replaced with good used) (Replaced aux belt while I was at it) I have also replaced two front brake calipers (one bleeder snapped), discs and brake hoses (one split). As time allows, I am fitting a new left rear brake caliper (bleeder bolt snapped), discs, brake hoses and handbrake shoes Dog guard struts both ineffective (replaced) Bonnet strut weak (fitted new) Front wipers (fitted new) Oil and oil changed (twice) Fuel filter changed Maybe now I should stop clearing and focus on just investigating the codes that I have. I will start with the constant ECM-500F Air condition - Faulty signal and look at the injector wiring Steve

Hi Stuart,
I will look again this morning. (The codes change from time to time) I can't remember if that code disappeared after I did the swirl adaptation. Good if it did. Also will keep an eye on whether it comes back after 4 or 5 starts (which I think is when an automatic startup test is run). Also will get a helper to spot if and when the arm moves at startup. Steve

on the test sweep is usually where worn link arms pop off. some have installed a stop to try to stop this happening. other have fitted new arms. some have drilled and put split pins through. i know this is not happening to yours but all info is good info. keep us posted with any updates.
