The problem is that 97.682% of statistics on the internet are made up on the spot....

How does it go? 'There are lies, damn lies, and statistics' or something?

Were on our third electric car (well the Missus is, I'm retired and have no where to go anyway) and I dan say one thing with dead certainty:

Anything the Daily Mail say in their doom and gloom reporting of electric cars is utter nonsense.

Thankfully they've turned their efforts to heat pumps now (I have two of those as well, and can comfirm the Mail are talking rot about those also) so they may leave electric cars alone for a day or two.

The technology behind heat pumps has been around for over 100 years now so of course they work… the problem is they are too often mis-sold as a direct replacement for a gas or oil boiler and that they will never be…..

The issue we are finding with heat pumps, is that they no good for new builds (excluding brand new builds where they are installing them anyway). We have a 2016 house, which was built for combi boilers. There is no space in the house for a hot water tank and all the associated piping. Also all you are doing is transferring the cost from cheap gas to more expensive electricity. We would be OK with our solar panels however not everyone does. We made the choice between the car or heat pumps and because of the intricacy of installation and piping the car won.

With regards to the government’s move on additional north sea investment, don’t forget its not just oil and gas for power, all the other chemicals that are a bi-product are used elsewhere, such as plastics, lubricants etc. Take Vegan friendly leather seats. They are now made from polyurethane which doesn’t grow on trees. We do need to make our country more sustainable, even if its for the short term as so many of the solar farms and wind farms are rejected by local residents, who then complain about global warming and the environment. You cant please everyone…

Absolutely - nearly 20% of crude oil goes on things that are not fuel. And as we know from the pandemic and Ukraine, the world is balances on a knife edge and doesn't respond well to shortages and having to switch to alternatives - whether packaging, plastics, fabrics etc.

Makes me laugh when the Just Stop Oil idiots stand there in clothing where every part of it was only possible due to oil....

Often when it comes to "environment" the prime focus is almost exclusively on... cars -_-

What about... houses? Scandinavian houses are woody and beautiful and in the UK we won't use anything unless bricks/morter/concrete when CO2 is sequestered more via use of wood than the other bits.
