When you type the VIN into VIDA, the last 6 digits go into the chassis number box, they are a sequential representation of when in line your car was built.
So at exactly car number 83619, Volvo made a design change that used a different pump, so all cars build from then on, use the newer pump.

Just to be clear, in case it wasn't, the Meyle part number that matches your volvo part number is 514 631 0021
You don't have to buy Meyle of course, but a few of us on here have had good luck with them and they represent excellent value

Thanks for your help.
I'm going to let the garage diagnose it first. I don't want to buy the pump just for the sake of it... there could be an issue somewhere else. I think they need to pressure test the system to isolate whether its the power steering rack at fault or the pump. I haven't got the equipment to do that. I think its the pump at fault personally, but I'd rather they diagnose it first. I don't want it to be a parts cannon. Pretty sure they won’t put genuine on it either, as its an older car. I’ll make sure that its aftermarket they go with. I’ll supply it if needs be.

I've been getting some prices on the power steering pump.
Meyle is now just shy of £200 on Autodoc. I've never used Autodoc before. Are there import charges to be paid? I got a price from a local parts place too. They have a Shaftec pump available at around £240 (next day delivery). There's a £15 surcharge if you just buy the pump without returning your old one though. Apec is another one they stock for around £240 with no surcharge. Anyone heard of these brands? I've heard of Apec.

Is it possible to refurbish these Volvo P3 steering pumps like power steering pumps on 850 Volvos?
I had it refurbished twice on my 855 TDI in 20 years and 368 tmiles... Now, I also got V70 2013, so...

And, having only briefly skimmed through the thread, have you considered completely emptying and refilling the system with Lucas Rack & Pinion Stop Leak as it has magical properties which has proved itself time and again especially on the P80 platform steering racks...? I would certainly give it a try, for the sake of ~£40, over the cost and hassle of refurbishment.

I don't know how accessible the power steering pump was on the older shape V70's, but its around 3 and a half hours labour in a garage to remove/install a new pump on a P3. The labour is as dear as the aftermarket pump.

The system holds ~ 1ltr of fluid. I personally would, as I'm sure others would, be very interested to receive any feedback on the same.

Tyre pressures are as they should be.

Do you just add one bottle and then top up with the correct spec power steering fluid, or do you replace your power steering fluid solely with the Lucas stuff?
