I have done about 5 tanks worth in my D5 e4 Polestar now.
Averaging 30mpg almost on the nose, although the OBC tells porkies and indicates around 35-37mpg. Pretty happy with that to be honest. Its about 75% motorway work, but I often cruise at 80mph with jaunts up to 100mph+ (im not in the UK btw!)

Travelled 250 miles to Peterborough and back (Harrogate) yesterday. Took it easy, (60 - 65 mph), light load, only one jam (damn those Burghley Horse Trials), and hey presto, 41.4 mpg average. Brilliant!!!

I reckon thatll be closer to 35mpg (still very good) after a proper calculation. My OBC often tells me I am doing 35mpg+, but the reality is that its always (pretty much without exception) around 28mpg each and every tank.

On a recent trip to Devon from Kent (260 miles, one way. Covered a total of 540 miles), my OBC said I averaged 30.8 mpg. With the aid of a calculator it worked out at 29.998 mpg. Kind of what I was expecting. the wife didn't help though, she drove home and has rather heavy right foot!

It would be good if owners started their mpg posts with which engine they have , looking through the posts I can almost guess their model, us 185 owners get about 28-32 , whereas 165 owners seem to be getting 35+

Mines a 2010 Active D5 manual with Polestar and 36000 miles. Fitted with Volvo roof box and about 2000 miles this summer - average 32.8 mpg based on brim to brim calculations. Amazing vehicle and we love it to bits.

2013 XC90 200HP with 7000 miles. Wondering if it's time to take it back to the dealer to see if anything can be done. Plus the lag from the lights (and roundabouts) is driving me nuts. Far far worse than my old 2003 XC90 ever was. Should add that the mpg is worked out on litres/km calculations, although the trip computer is never more than about 0.5mpg different. Recent Euro jaunt in August to France, Belgium, Holland and onto Berlin got me an ave 46mpg.
Previous Euro trip back in April netted me a whopping 47.8mpg. All fully loaded with holiday gear (you know how it is Both figures where an all round average, door to door. 2350 miles. In Blighty I see on average 43mpg on a run and high 30's combined. With a light load. Driving in Europe gets me way better mpg, likely due to less congestion, better / longer road network and sustained cruising. I hear the fuel is substantially better quality too? (always sceptical of that one). A Lex, I know the OBC tells porkies. I like that as it puts a smile on my face. Just like the rest of the car ; ) ps Dutch roads aren't laid, they appear to be Ironed onto the surface. Never in my life have I seen such smooth tarmac. Running a 2008 D5 SE Lux, 185bhp, Manual Transmission, Angel tuning remap. DPF gutted. Evidence? |

Dutch roads are nice and smooth arent they We pay for it though. 2200euro per year road tax for a D5 XC90. My honest guess would be that 47mpg on the dash would be around 40mpg in real life, which for a constant cruise tank at 60-70mph in a car with no DPF seems about spot on. Ive been doing a little experiment this tank - driving around 110kph on my daily mway commute (instead af around 140-160) and trying to accelerate smoothly and slowly where possible. Ive currently got 30L left in the tank, having covered around 400km so far, with the OBC showing an average of 7,9L/100 (or around 36mpg). Im predicting this should be around 32mpg real life by the time the tank is finished. Thats an improvement of around 4mpg over an average tank (or around 15% improvement in economy). Using very rough calcs, this would save me about 20euro per month in fuel costs with the mileage that I do. Doesnt really seem worth it, eh!
