And we thought some Volvo prices were bonkers, well……

https://angliacarauctions.co.uk/clas...d-25-tdi

Perhaps some of these higher prices are now becoming the norm, or some deluded individual has a £10k (ish with commission) 20 yr old Audi 😀😀

Cheers

I think some deluded individual thinks they have a bargain with a 2 decade old 4WD Audi for £10k

I can’t help thinking there is more to this than meets the eye. The price guide was a few grand, but someone has bid ten. Maybe a shill bidding scam that backfired?

My thoughts would be someone online was bidding and intended to put in £3945 and mistyped so their bid actually became £9345 - most other people wouldn't want to bid over £4k for a 20 year old Audi, even if it is a rare model with FASH, low mileage etc etc.
The only one that might would be someone who had one 20 years ago and loved it so much they want another but i would have thought they could have fond one at a more reasonable price with the usual dealer facilities of warranties etc.

A fair point, but I do know that even to be able to bid on the ACA auctions they require a £500 card deposit paid before the auction starts.

I certainly wouldn't try to risk it

Ah Dave, the good old, 'Fat Finger' typo

Some poor soul may have a difficult telephone conversation with ACA

What a dilemma!!!!! if that is indeed what happened, they obviously wanted it, but do you bite the bullet and pay up, or try to wriggle and settle with the vendor on a lower amount say £5k ????

Makes buying at auction seem even more traumatic now

Cheers

On the ‘Bangers and Cash’ programme Mathewsons seem to have a fat finger issue on many shows - and it would appear they never pursue the errant bidder. I don’t know whether ACA would be stricter?

I’m not sure of the mechanics of ACA auctions, surely there would necessarily have been at least one other bidder at something approaching the sale price for winning bid to be accepted?

On the subject of "fat fingers", it's a search engine to search ebay for items listed with typos that generally have no bids so can be picked up very cheaply :

http://fatfingers.com/

As for the mechanics of the bidding, i remember going to ACA about 15 years ago and the person went with was looking for a car. When the one he wanted came up, he waited until the bidding got to about £600 and slowed then threw his bid of £990 (i think it was that, might have been £1050) out and the auctioneer accepted it - nobody else bid after either so the deal went at £990 or £1050 as per his bid, plus of course Buyers Indemnity Premium/commission.

The viewpoint seemed to be that if he was willing to offer that bid, they would accept as their job is to get the best price which earns them the best commission on the sale.

You are probably right Dave. There must have been something of a raised eyebrow when the bidding jumped from 3 grandish to £9,345 - unless there were indeed a couple of other bidders following it upwards.
