I quite like this motorcar - for a start it isn’t a VWW, and also it is closer to a sensible price. A bit like the one above, it lacks provenance, and this one has a really patchy history. I can see it did most of its 70,000 miles early on, mileage and maintenance have slowed to a trickle in the last decade, my guess is this happened because it is an expensive motorcar to run. As Steve says, the MoT history is chequered with a few rests (… under the apple tree) and quite a few mentions of the ‘c’ word.

I’m curious about this one, I think it is worth perhaps 2 grand, so I may watch it to see if it gets any bids. It is hard to imagine there will be many folk out there looking for a rather impractical 28 year old, poorly maintained car that will be pretty expensive to run (it won’t qualify for the free tax until April 2037).

Maybe I’ll be proven completely wrong and this one will make good money. We’ll see.

It's a Royal so it will be worth more than a standard 960, however not many people want a stretched Volvo 960 that's got a sketchy history.

I see your point Luke (and many thanks for the period Volvo advertising video), but I’m not convinced all that extra complexity will translate into a higher price for a 28 year old. When stuff goes wrong (and it will of course) it will be a bugger to find replacements for and fix. I’d certainly agree about a stretched motorcar having limited appeal - it will be tricky to park and manoeuvre in traffic. The extra weight will also make the fuel consumption a bit scary.

For me, the main reason for owning a big Volvo is the estate version.

I know Dave, and I fully appreciate that many folk like big Volvos for exactly that reason, just as antiques dealers (amongst others) did back in the day. I’m a bit tongue in cheek when I call them VWWs - but that is the way many owners will use them.

Agreed. I’ve always referred to mine as a five door, five seater van!😂

I hope everyone knows I mean no offence when I call estate cars VWWs Andrew. The very first new car I bought was a Volvo 240 estate way back in 1986 - and the reason I bought that model way to use it as a VWW. My daily driver is a Skoda Superb diesel VWW, but for my hobby motor cars I much prefer saloons.

Absolutely no offence, I like to think my VWW is more like a Swiss Army Knife, capable on many levels😀👍

Cheers
