Skoda used to be a bit dodgy when they were just re-bodied VW's with the myriad quality problems VAG products have had since the mid-late 90's.

There's more to the snobbery though... I do like the older cars that use more metal than plastic, easier to maintain and don't require finance for purchase.
But what about the snobbery of someone that buys an expensive vehicle and looks down on those peasants that get their hands dirty in maintaining their own vehicles? |

We don't know individual circumstances. Some people need a newer car and they come with a price tag that often requires finance. An older car may not suit someone that's up and down the motorway racking up the miles. It doesn't make them snobs... old cars don't suit everyone. If we really want to be honest, a Skoda is a normal car. They have the modern gismo's, but don't have the same price tag as a luxury car like a Mercedes or BMW loaded with complicated electrics and fancy interior's. That doesn't mean Skoda's are "cheap". They're adequate cars for most people who simply can't afford a luxury 3-pointed star on the bonnet.

Yes, indeed.
It does appear that the car component most likely to fail is the nut behind the steering wheel.
