D5 mpg
Sorry if this has been done before (it must have been) but I did look and couldn't see a thread.
I currently drive a 2001 C70 2.0t man. Had it for 4.5 years, covered 60,000 miles in it (total 170,000) almost without any problems (other than clutch and flywheel at 160,000 which I can forgive due to the mileage). Anyhoo....... I have a 130 mile return trip to work, just about all motorway. My current car returns about 32 mpg at 70 (ish ) and I'm trying to work out if I can justify the extra cost of changing it for a C. 2007/8 C70 with a D5. What sort of mpg would the car above return please at a constant 70ish? Thanks. |

My display reads 46.5mpg average at the mo, just pootling around town with the odd 60mph stretch. However, people have said on here to check mpg manually for more accuracy as the Info display can be a bit out. The D5 is pretty frugal considering the power and shedloads of torque you get. Happy motoring!

Open road and not being driven hard, they do low 50's. But as soon as you start fiddling around in town, low 40's. Some varients are better than others, I think the Euro iv 165bhp is the most efficient/least problematic?

Just averaged c,48 mpg on a 700 mile trip, that's 90% Motorways, the rest traffic jams and rural stuff. Computer had it at over 50, but was a bit optimistic tbh. Mine S60 D5 is an Automatic by the way. You will get 50 easily from a manual.

As has been said, for the oomph available, the D5 is pretty frugal, even in as heavy a car as the C70. I reckon you should be getting at least 45mpg at 70mph on a long run like that, even in the automatic, and probably a couple mpg more in the manual. It's only 2000 revs with either box.
But if you can stand to drive a little slower, so that the turbo's awake but not fully 'in', it can get very economical indeed. At 60-65mph, I'd get easily into the low 50's mpg on your commute on my D5 manual.

I've my v70 d5 a few weeks and love it.it has now done 225000 miles and when I got it it was doing average 45 mpg with a sticking calipers, that's fixed and now around 50 to 55 on average I'm in Ireland and in the country so not stuck in traffic too much.

I've been doing brim tank fulls, on my xc90 with 5244T D5 engine and this works out to be 32mpg.
The fuel indicator says a completely different story usually better than the brim results. These have been motorway runs, 400 miles+ should I be getting better results, and what should be changed to improve the MPG, is it a matter of getting better injectors? John |
