Default Problems with soot

Hi,

I got Volvo C30 2.0D 2008., ~134 000 km

For the past 6-12 months, my car has been smoking alot when accelerating. Exhaust tips are totally black if not cleaned after 2-3 weeks (fi10 so can be easily seen) and rear of the car would also become gray + dots of soot (my car color is white so also can easily be seen).
Last 2-3 months, I was getting soot filter full messeage and then I would go drive the car on a highway. Also, I was on the seaside 1 month ago and drove on a highway for ~500km in both directions but the problem was there again.
I went to the service, they cleaned DPF filter but the same thing again.. today friend drove behind me and told me that car smokes really bad.

I was reading that problem may be with EGR, intake manifold, fuel filter, air filter... is there anything else so I can tell when I go to service again..

Look for a split turbo hose a loss in pressure causes the engine to over fuel and creates loads of soot and smoke

Question

Has the car been fully serviced including cleaning the EGR and checking or changing the air filter ??

Does it only smoke when booted ??

If you have been using supermarket diesel, I would try asing a direct feed injection cleaner when the fuel filter is changed to see if that helps, BUT get the hidden fault codes read, just in case this is a sensor fault (including the turbo boost sensor).

Likely a split hose or intercooler, and/or a faulty sensor somewhere. Worst case could be a bad injector, but you'd have noticed a big difference in performance and economy.

With leaking boost pressure you'll be seeing smoke all the time, especially bad on accelerating, but continuous medium amounts of smoke even when just cruising at a constant speed. It quite common for this to happen on any turbo diesel, the pipes do eventually break down and split from age/environment

Guess I won't wait ~10 days.

2 days ago came a message: "Engine system serivce required" and car has a power loss.. it acceleretes really slow.
This came 3 out of ~10 drives. Other drives were normal. Strange.

With any modern car that has a fault that can have more than one cause, you really need to get the codes read if you can't find an obvious cause.
Although it might be a turbo related fault, it's starting to sound like the DPF needs replacing (Sounds like intermittent limp mode in power loss terms), although a blocked EGR will give similar symptoms, although it should not be smoking unless booted.

A fuel filter, air filter or dirty intake can cause an engine fault warning and limp mode, BUT not bad smoke.
Gummed up or blown injectors can cause grey or black smoke, but that possibilty is less likely, unless you have Far Eastern fuel filter that has split and a grubby tank. If that is the case, the HP fuel pump might be failing and even if it is replaced the injectors tips will already have been damaged.

DPF sensor failed. They will replace it and I will pick the car tomorow.
