Default Spare key programming for Japanese import 2011 V70

Hi,

Does anyone have any recommendations on who can program a spare key for a Japanese import 2011 V70?

Have called around to a few auto locksmiths but few seem to be able to do Volvo. And none have been able to do Volvos from Japan. Apparently the key fob operates at a different frequency to UK cars.

Any help appreciated to avoid having to spend £400+ at a dealer. I am based in London but willing to travel if needed.

Thanks

Different frequencies sounds very probable. The different telecommunication committees in different countries have different frequency bands available for the same kind of functions.
If this is true for Japan vs. the UK (very probable), then you aren't helped by going to Volvo, since the fob they are allowed to sell in the UK aren't useful with your car.
If the rules in the UK are similar to what they are in Sweden, it's actually unlawful to use a Japanese origin Volvo in the UK, without replacing the radio receiver in the car and the key transmitters with them.

Dealer can order any key for any region as they being shipped from Sweden. Japan is using different freq. 426Mhz. Ask dealer to check part 30659497 is the remote for jap market but in vida it will show the one for your car as there one for keyless. The remote cost around £100-120 and programming and labour. But sometimes is less than locksmith. Last time I did it was £160 for key with programming. Ask few dealers as prices vary

Thanks for you answer! I do have some follow up questions if you don't mind:

1. What do you mean by 'in vida it will show the one for your car as there one for keyless'?

2. Also, when I google the part number https://usparts.volvocars.com/p/42814475/30659497.html it doesn't seem to say that it's compatible with a 2011 V70 (max year is 2009 but for the 3.0/3.2 whereas I have the 2.5T). How do you know this part is compatible with my car?

3. Do you mind sharing which dealer suggested as low as £160? When I asked Volvo Tonbridge today they said £475... I don't mind roadtripping for a few hours to save a bit of cash

Thanks

Dealer is using vida online, using vin of the car it will point to the correct nr for the part. Just ring FRF Volvo in Swansea ask for the part. Any dealer can program key, even independent garage that has vida online subscription.

Thanks very much - really helped me out here.

Called Swansea and they have sent out a Japanese market key/fob for me for around £130 incl. VAT.

When that arrives I will either take it to a local dealer to get it programmed (c. £100) or a local auto locksmith.

Fingers crossed it all works out

Glad I could help. FRF is good to deal with good pricing.

Yes, dealer only as they do operate on different RF range. I'm in similar situation.

Hi I'm in the same situation with an imported Japanese V70 SE. Did you have any luck with getting a new key fob?

Yes it all worked out in the end.

I bought the Japanese key fob (different frequency to UK cars) from FRF Swansea. They are very helpful and can look up the part required. That was c. £130

I then took it to my local Volvo dealer who charged £92 to code it to the car in about 30 minutes. They weren't very confident it would work given they hadn't done a Japanese car before but it worked.

Then I bought a blank metal emergency key from ebay for £10. I got it cut by a local locksmith for £20 and it works perfectly. I believe if you ask the dealer to cut the emergency key it's c. £130 so this is a decent saving for something you may never use.

So all in l I spent c. £250 but it's been a year and not had a single issue. Bit cheaper than the £475 quote by the dealer
