Default Buying my first Volvo - XC90 D5 or B5?

Hi,

Looking for a family car with a lot more space. Typically doing a mix of driving, some motorway but only for around 25 minute journeys and plenty of shorter drives for 10-15 minutes. Day trips and weekends away would be longer 1.5 hour plus journeys.

We’re looking at either an April 2019 D5 Power Pulse R Design or a June 2020 B5D Inscription. Happy with either trim, mileage is about the same for both cars and there’s a 2K difference in price.

I’ve read about quite a few instances of issues with the Power Pulse hose. Is this common? It’s putting me off the D5 but it’s the more affordable option as we’re buying outright. Also can’t work out which engine is likely to be more economical based on our driving patterns.

Any advice is much appreciated!

What's the mpg difference between the 2?

Petrol can be much simpler in most cars with diesels tending to "clog up" in short journeys

The B5 mpg is quoted at 37.7 combined, D5 quotes at 47. They’re both diesel options, there are no petrol options available in our age bracket or budget unfortunately. That’s why I thought the B5 diesel hybrid might suit us better than an outright diesel?
