P3 V70 rear battery box lid
Hello folks
The plastic screw head on my rear battery box lid has suffered some mullering over time. I have added to this by killing it good and proper I'm finding rear lids not that easy to track down, so presume it's a trip to my local Volvo. But before I do, I wondered if there's a tried and tested quick fix as the lid's okay apart from the fubarred screw head, which fell apart like it was made o' cheese Ta Gaz |

It seems like such a stupid design to me... having to turn the plastic fastener to unto the cover. Most people don't even know that its there, hence why it gets broken. They just pull up on the cover and snap the fastener in the process.

I've never locked the lid, do you even need the screw to be functioning? It seems a pretty secure fit even without locking it

Playing with plastic
It seems I can get a replacement battery box cover for about £40, or £80 for the two. So I thought I'd take a look at the fubarred screw:
Fairly obvious that the previous owner gubbed the cross head, and had cut in a flat slot. And I then chewed it off with a flat headed screwdriver It came out of the cover quite easily. But is not available separately. Of course not!: So I had a thunk: And decided to sacrifice an innocent panel pin. Note the nice little recess for the button on the screw head: Tacked it with superglue: And then reinforced it with cold weld: I'm quite happy with the outcome - job's a good 'un : Total repair costs - n'owt Gaz |

Why thank you sir. I have been artful in my bodgery over many a decade, and will add this particular effort as evidence towards my Continuing Bodger Professional Development (CBPD).
I left it overnight to harden and filed off a little excess cold weld to ensure a smooth action, back and forth Now back together, I've decided that my V70 should now be considered OEM+ Gaz |

You can buy them from Skandix, however the delivery charge is high. Mine is a bit mashed up too but I just stick my hand under the thing and move the lever to release it.
