2020 XC60 II gearbox issue

Hi all,

First post and hopefully not a duplicate, haven’t found anything similar to this when searching but happy to be corrected.

I took my 2020 model XC60 in for a major service on Monday (about 40,000 miles). No issues when handing it over but then get a call later in the day after the service and before an MOT saying there is now a loud screeching noise when the car is put in reverse.

Master technician doesn’t know what it is so they’re proposing to take the gearbox out as they think something is wrong (under warranty).

I am really surprised by this given no sign of any issues before the service and it being a relatively new car. Is anyone aware of gearbox issues with this model, or any alternative hypotheses?

I would be suspicious that someone has messed up.
