Default B230K head (or possibly engine) and coil

Hi all,

I have a b230k in an 86 estate which is currently refusing to fire.

On top of this I know the thread in No1 sparkplug hole is... Iffy. At best.

So: I'm looking for a new head (at least).

If that head came attached to a different engine giving me the option to get rid of all the Bendix rubbish then that might be even better!

If no other engine option arises then I'd also be interested in trying a new coil/power stage on the current engine just to see if that gets me anything.

Thanks all!

That sonds like a sledgehammer to crack a walnut solution to me!

First, have you confirmed why the engine won't start? Is it fuel or spark?

The coils on these generally go on forever unless you have the (rare in the UK) Renix (not Bendix) ignition system.

I think before you splash out ona replacement engine that probably won't fix your problem, you'd be better off getting some diagnosis as to why it won't actually run.

Yeah I've confirmed a lack of spark.

I don't want to keep messing around with the plugs though as numero uno is no bueno as mentioned

Also, as its a -K engine I've got no allegiance to it. I don't like the carb, I don't like the advance system and I'm not a massive fan of any of the other vacuum stuff either.

The renix stuff I've seen suggests a vacuum diaphragm built onto the coil/control unit body. Mine, I think, is a Bendix unit (with the strut tower mounted pressure sensor).

Not yet, but it's next on the list of things to check.
