Where do you finds parts? (Volvo 145 wagon)
I am looking at buying a 145 wagon, however it needs work. I know for sure it needs new brakes and a new fuel tank, and I'm sure there is plenty more it will need but my question is, where do you find parts for these? junkyard? swap meets? online? I would prefer close to if not new parts, after market is fine too I just don't know what will fit on this car, or do I swap hubs and what not with a different car that has aftermarket support?? also what about the fuel tank? do I just fit a fuel cell or is there one made for this car out there (not on eBay or junkyard but actual new parts being made for it)
I am okay with doing fabrication work if I have to but I'm just curious as to if I have to or not cause I'd prefer not to cut it up and put random parts from different cars in it if i don't have to (I'm not a purist but I'd hate to cut stuff and weld new stuff in from different cars if I don't have to) Any advice/help is greatly appreciated. Thanks. Colin. |

I ask folk on here, Facebook and eBay. Just message folk and ask if they have any spares. Some of the best finds I’ve had was by contacting folk on eBay asking if they had any other parts. In the U.K. 140 parts are hard to come by compared to Amazon or 240 parts. We also have a good classic Volvo retailer in the U.K., assume you guys will as well in the US.

I have a 1971 142E and all of the part required to keep it running (or get it running) are readily available. Unfortunately, some of the parts are only available from the European vendors so shipping can be a touch costly.
I am guessing that Jacksonville means one of the Jacksonvilles in the US (more than one!). If that is the case give Rock Auto a try first. Lots of the common 140 mechanical parts available there at a very low price. Other US based vendors include: http://hiperformanceautoservice.com/ https://www.irollmotors.com/ http://212.247.61.152/us/main.aspx?guest=yes (VP Autoparts US division) IROLL is more of an 1800 specialist; but, has parts for the 140 drivetrain. VP has a huge range of parts including interior parts / upholstery. There are other US based vendors; but, I have not dealt with them. There is also IPD USA who used to stock a wide range of vintage Volvo parts; but, now just sells a very limited range of parts. In Europe there are: https://www.cvi-automotive.se/en (CVI) https://classic-volvo.com/ (Scandcar) https://www.skandix.de/en/ (Skandix) https://www.gcp.se/en/ (Volvo genuine classic parts) There is also Nordicar; but, I have never ordered from them. Between CVI, Scandcar, Skandix and VP you can get any mechanical part that you need to keep the car running and you should be able to get a lot of the body and interior pieces you need for restoration although body and interior pieces unique to the 145 (as opposed to 142 or 144) may be a little harder to find or be unavailable. For those parts your need to do the EBay scrounge. If you are prepared to pay, you can play! Last edited by 142 Guy; Oct 25th, 2020 at 23:12. |

Besides the recommendations you've already had, give fcpeuro.com a try, they're stateside but i forget where.
Also many of the ignition parts on the 140 series if Bosch are shared with Ford UK cars of that era and there are loads of those still on the road so things like CB points, condensors, rotor arms, dizzy caps etc are still widely available. Also if memory serves correctly (it's a long time since i had a 145 and a 144) many brake parts are also shared with a lot of UK cars of a similar era, again there is support for these in the right places so brake pads shouldn't be too much of a problem, especially if you have Girling/Lucas/Lucas-Girling/TRW calipers. If you get really stuck for something and can only find it on ebay.co.uk and the seller won't ship to the USA, give me a shout and we'll sort something out. You'll still have to pay shipping to you but at least you'll get the parts you need.
