Default Which engine in 2005 XC90

Hi guys and girls

I am looking to make my return to Volvo ownership with a 2005(55) XC90 diesel. I know from looking around that Volvo upgraded the diesel engine late 2005 from 163hp to 185hp but how do I know which is which

I have asked seller for the engine code from the VIN and he tells me that it is 61 (YV1CZ61******) I have looked about on the net but keep coming across N American sites that seem to list "61" as a petrol engine but me thinks "that can't be"

My Question. What engine does car have fitted? 163 or 185?

TIA

Maz

Basically what colour is the engine cover and what is the badge on the back?

Grey engine cover and badged d5 is 185bhp
Grey engine cover badged 2.4d is 163bhp ( not seen one on the xc90 tho)

Black engine cover is 163bhp and badged d5.

Grey engine covered models are euro 4 emissions and have a dpf fitted along with a few other electrical components, swirl arm Ect.

Thumbs up Check V5 document for KW (BHP)

Hi
Power is stated in the V5 registration document
Section 4, line P2 just above the VIN number
It is given in KW
136KW is the 185 BHP engine (Actually 136 KW is 182.4 BHP)
The 163 BHP engine is actually 121.5KW, but the V5 will probably have a whole number somewhere near this value.
There are plenty of convertors on the web if you need to check what power output in KW (the european standard), equates to what BHP.
Good luck, and remember if you get a 185 engine registered before 23052006 tax is limited to a maximum Band K £285, after this date it may go into Band L £485 if it is over 225 g/km emissions,
good luck
