Default C70 2006 New Owner - Advice

Hi all,

just brought a C70 Mk2 T5. 2006. 88k miles.

Im trying to find information around what the common issues are for this car so that I can fix / prevent them. Ive so far read about the PCR valve and am keen to hear about other areas.

THe car has an ABS fault. I will plug my autel code reader into it later to try and work out what the issue is. IS an ABS issue common ?

How long do the T5's turbo last before they need replacing ? I also need to replace the cambelt as I dont think this has been done.

Any advice, tips, would be great.

Thanks

Simon

check the boot well is dry as this is where the hydraulics live to operate the roof any moisture can kill them. if its wet check the seals on the rear lights as all the water off the roof runs over them. check that the stowed roof lift yellow button works if it dose not work there will be a broken wire to hall sensor 3. keep tire pressures slightly higher than recomended to minimise inner tire wear on the rear. its the pcv valve that can get blocked do the glove test to check it.

the turbo charger should last the life of the car .If it doesn't then the servicing has been neglected.

The cambelt, it's tensioner and the TWO aux belts and their two tensioners need replacing every 108000 miles or 10 years which ever comes first.. so should have been done 6 years ago ...???

This is a heavy car about 1700 kg tyre pressures should be around 38 psi for best fuel consumption and tyre life .

Great choice of car! Mine has never gone wrong so I can't give much advice, but I agree that the belts need to be changed asap.

While you are sorting out the oily bits, I recommend you get one of these:

They are easy to fit and are a great addition.

I would add to the cambelt thing.

If you're not sure if it has been done, get it done.

Sorry to disagree but opening the roof on the move sounds a recipe for disaster!

My favourite thing I've bought is the oven switch for the ignition. I can't remember where I got from and I will post if I can.

It was probably Ebay. Not expensive and it means you can just leave your keys in your pocket - Great!

Why is leaving your keys in your pocket a good thing when there's a handy holder for them on the dash?

i too think the smart top is not a good idea the roof system is complicated enough without adding to it it would confuse any attempt to diagnose a problem and a volvo dealer may refuse to touch it . just my opinion. if you cant live without it get it but remember this post if thing go wrong.

You don't have to open it on the move... you have to actively select that function and can leave it disabled if you don't want to. I don't use it.

I bought mine on the recommendation of another owner. He has had no problems and neither have I.

The unit does not alter the mechanicals of the roof or its controller. It just provides an alternative source for the activation signals. Remote open and close are the most useful to me.

BTW, mine was fitted by my Volvo indy. I don't use dealers but the unit can be easily unplugged if that is a concern.
