Default Oil Leak After Service

My car went in for its second annual service this morning. When I arrived home I parked on the drive and opened the garage door to put in the car.
After I had parked the car I went to close the gates on the drive and there was a huge pool of oil deposited there. There was also oil dripping the length of the drive into the garage.

I 'phoned the dealer who told me to contact Volvo Assistance. They came out very quickly. The mechanic checked the oil level and said there was some left and I reversed the car out of the garage. He towed it away back to the dealer.

Not long after I left the dealer's I got a message to say that "the park assist was not working. Sensors were blocked and need cleaning." I can only assume the oil leak had contaminated the sensors.

My driveway is a right mess. It is block paving that I only had laid last year.

Definitely grounds for a claim against the garage. Take pictures asap and consult your home insurers. I have legal assistance attached to mine check to see if you do.

The dealer returned my car this morning. Apparently it was a faulty seal on the new oil filter.
They have sent a young man to spread kiln dried sand on the oil spills, and somebody is coming at the week-end to clean up the oil.

id say thats "jolly decent" of the dealer to clean there own mess up, granted its the Least they Should do.
not fitting the oil seal on the filter properly is a Lot more of a "i wont be using you again" for me, as luck is Totally on your side it was noticed on the driveway, not when on the motorway etc !

Sounds like "we didn't fit the seal properly" to me.

The oil will likely leave its mark on the block pavers, be prepared for more claims/insurance/photos/diary etc.

The oil stains will remain even after professional cleaning (ask me how I know!)
The only proper remedy is for the pavers to be replaced with new. Even then, the whole drive may need replacing as even 12 months exposed to the Elements will show a big difference between newly laid & original paving blocks.

As I see it, the original poster appears to be taking this in his stride - I’m not sure I would be, since it’s reasonable to believe that all that has been said is likely to be actual conclusion.

To me, this borders the unacceptable, since surely the absolute basic check following any oil and filter change is to ensure there aren’t any oil leaks.

Still, as has been said, it could have been far worse and resulted in a wrecked engine as well.
