Can I use 5W30 A5 motor oil?
Volvo V70, 2.4d
D5244T5 engine. The proper motoroil for this engine is 0W30 A5B5, but I do have some 5W30 A5 oil. Can I use the latter oil? Also,-what is the difference between A5B5 and A5 classification? |

I've been googling, and as far as I understand it A5 is for petrol engines and B5 is for light duty diesel engines,-so A5B5 covers both engine types.
Which leads to the question;-which properties makes an oil suitable for diesel engines? |

That's interesting, Simmy, as most modern oils state they are suitable for both petrol and diesel which would make for some exceptionally clean petrol engines. Surely a factor in keeping emissions down...?
