Default Fuel Consumption.

Just returned from a trip to Austria and covered 2739 miles.

I have the XC60 D5 185 BHP and the average mpg for this trip, worked out to be 40.3 mpg.

Six of the days, were local and only covered around 10 miles, each day.
Just coming up to 35000 miles and I would say, that, the fuel consumption has improved, over time and miles covered.

Will be doing a trip to the South of France, beginning of October and will compare.

My mpg is definately improving as the mileage piles on. I am at 27,000 miles and finding better mpg. I can get nearly 500 miles before filling up. I reckon that's about 35mpg with a regular mix of town and A road/motorway.

I got around 460 on the D5 loaner. I have a question the fuel tank is 70 litres?

So how come I filled up and put 67 litres yet it was still showing as 50 litres to empty tank. How accurate is the reading? I was assuring my wife that we had plenty left and it turns out I only had 3 litres plus what was left in the fuel system.

I thought it was 70 litres.

It certainly took 67 the other night when I was running on vapour!

Where does it say how many litres to empty tank? I don't have that-just a miles to empty tank which seems accurate to me.

With the variety of engines, gearboxes and running gear that now exist within the XC60 range the mpg needs to be related to the type of XC60 you are driving This results in a variation from ~30ish to ~50ish per gallon, all of which are valid.

Can you say the engine type and gearbox - that way people will be able to compare equably

might be helpful

Turn the end of the left hand stalk and it will cycle through the various measurements in the lower half of the right hand dial (rev counter) - MPG is one of them ( or ltrs depending on your settings )

You are right, it tells me the miles to empty. Most cars I've had indicate that they require a fill and have at least 6-8 litres left so almost 1-1.5 gallons. So from that I could work out that I could drive 30-40 miles comfortably and still get fuel. I will just have to get used to a slightly new method.
