Hi,
I'm about to change the wheel hub since a slight play was found on both offside bearings. However I will start with the front one since the whining noise seems to come front that corner. I had the alignment done few months ago and it was spot on and I tried to find some information on the internet whether it needs to done again after replacing either front or rear one. Can't find any confirmation as different sources say different things. What do you reckon guys? |

I changed the FR (front offside) bearing in my '02. The bearing unit had a projection which went into the knuckle but was otherwise "surface mounted".
By that I mean nothing was disturbed. It never dawned on me to have it realigned. The tires wore smoothly and evenly. Believe me, having an alignment is something I would've done, if necessary. I'd expect the same when doing a rear bearing. |

Yes, but only if you remove the strut. The front struts have one of the bolt holes made slightly large. I believe it affects camber.

yes there's a bit of slop in the top fixing you can measure it with the callipers to compare both sides to at least get them the same so it's consistent
you can also do what I did and get the eccentric bolts from Powerflex and/or other suppliers which give you a more predictable level of accuracy I found as you approach 1 degree though things get really twitchy at higher speeds so I would avoid getting excited about that and banging them right in for 'stance' go for about 0.5 and it handles perfectly well personally I would get the tracking done after changing a hub (or any other axle / suspension component) but at the bare minimum take it somewhere safe and try letting it drive by itself not holding on to the wheel and see if it veers off on gas or on brakes I suppose (probably fairly obvious to you already) Last edited by stuart bowes; Jun 30th, 2024 at 19:34. |
