Default B20 identification anyone?

A fellow member of the Cheshire section has acquired a B20 engine of unknown age and origin of the car it came from.

He is carrying out a full recondition and rebuild and has the following identifications:

Block has B20 and 4969 cast into the side of it from the foundry, the camshaft has a letter 'A' stamped into it and 418207.

'01' is in the first smooth space on the block and '156' is in the second smooth area, signifying it's likely to be an early B20?
He's assuming it's original home was in either an Amazon or possibly an 1800S as we don't think a B20 was ever fitted into the PV544?

Any thoughts or wisdom from experienced forum members will be appreciated

From that list - 496901 = B20A. Likely Amazon but could be 140. As you say never a B20 in the 544 but will fit the B18 bell housing to allow the PV clutch mechanism to work. For day to day driving the A spec engine is nice to use.
