Default Suspension recall???

Hi am new here and have bought a s40 t4 2000 which i love but have a knocking on drivers side around suspension area. Was told that volvo recalled for this problem, which the bloke before me should of done it before but hasn't and i dont know what needs replacing. Had some mecanhic look over it said its safe and ok but the noise states otherwise and can't see what it is.......any clue??????

It is probably the main engine mounting on the drivers side near the top of the cam belt cover .. It may look ok but if it knocks when you take your foot off and on the accelerator at low speeds in low gears thats the answer ..

My 1999 V40 had its 130,000 mile service at the dealer's recently.

I've got a knocking in the same place (its not the engine mounting - I replaced that earlier this year).

They examined the suspension for me at the service and said all is OK and the knocking is due to the strut which has become noisy with age. They said its not uncommon and its still working OK so not to worry about it.

Another possibility for a knocking is the anti-roll bar bushes which do tend to wear.

Anti roll bar mounts/drop links, strut top housing/bearing and lower ball joint are all areas that wear on these cars and can cause knocking. The engine mounts do go but the knock is more connected to the engine than the suspension doing its bit then.

Yea i thought that but i had it serviced and they seemed as tho it wasn't the engine mount seems like something to do with the suspension when i change gear it knocks like you said but stops after the car warms up. Volvo did recall for this i've been told; but i dont actually know what part to change?

That is a good sign that its your r/h engine mount. When they start to go they knock when cold as they get more worn they knock all the time.

My 1998 t4 had the same prob, Looking back through the history Volvo looked for this knocking and couldn't work out what it was.
It has since dissapeared after hitting some speed humps to fast.
MOT on Wed so will find out if it is still ok
