Smile Headlight replacement S40 T4 1999

Could anybody tell me what options I have to replace my cracked headlight lens.

Apart from like for like, are there any more modern looking upgrades anybody knows of?

Siam blue warned me that the S2 indicators would not fit the S1 wing?

I have the egg crate grill which took me out of the 90s to the 2000s

Any advice or ideas appreciated

You could upgrade to newer PH2 lights with black bezel with or without chrome trim or maybe something like this to tickle your bank balance.

Or maybe from this seller?

I presume yours is a Phase 1 from your comments about Ph 2 indicators not fitting? I bought some Depo aftermarket indicators for Phase 1 cars with smoked lenses for less than £20 each, they are good quality and match well with later black bezel lights.

Thanks Windy.

Wow I never knew such modern things were available for my old car.

Perhaps Ill go for the phase 2 ones or try to find the smoked ones you were talking about.
I don't want to double the value of my car.
Although she is priceless to me.

Thanks

Lee

Yeah they are a bit pricey to justify on an older car and to be honest the later black bezel lights make the car look much better when combined with the eggcrate grill and indicators, some Osram Nightbreaker bulbs will also give you much improved vision at night too.

Ph2 headlights will be a straight fit in the bodywork on a Ph1, however you will have to modify the wiring behind the headlight. Not sure exactly, but I'm sure there is a thread on here that covers what needs to be done.

Ph2 indicators will not fit Ph1 cars, so you could either fit silver Ph2 headlights and keep the original indicators, or black bezel lights and swap the indicators for the ones windymiller mentions. Definitely a good upgrade, not only for looks but driving as well.

Lee whatever wiring you need you can have from my V40, I just need to ask Gatos what parts you need.

Here is a link to changing the wiring when changing the headlights to newer units.

http://www.volvohowto.com/how-to-upg...o-s40-and-v40/

I did mine a while ago but I seem to remember just removing the wiring in the headlight to the plug connector and just swapping them over as I think it is just the plug connector that is different? It was a while ago and my brain isn't what it was. Just been into the garage to look out the parts I swapped over and I think this is the old connector.

I have looked at the excellent guide on swapping to P2.
Beyond my normal involvement but it is all there, so maybe ill just read again a few more times to sink in. (I did upgrade the washer nozzles all by myself though, wow Thanks GATOS for supply.

Is the performance of the Phase 2 lights any better than Phase 1?
Because if not I might just try to change the lens.
I've seen this thread.

Which is easer because I will end up doing that knowing me?

If you mean single headlights vs double headlights, then from what I've heard - absolutely. Never actually compared them myself. Though some P1s had the double headlights from the factory as well.
