I keep hearing a pop or snap at low speed when I turn L or R
I keep hearing a pop or snap at low speed when I turn left or right more sharp and over bumps sometimes too , it's coming from the rear end.
Volvo s60 p2 (FWD) Rear parts about 4 months ago: Struts- new , Swaybar links - new, Swaybar bushings - new About Month ago my parking brake (RR) flew off at the technical inspection and I think here I started to hear the sound, but after repairing the parking brake this sound persists so idk .... The noise coming from rear passenger wheel. I find the same noise in this video. https://youtu.be/BD8t90AuQbg?si=xaMb0iLB5v2B1ZLd Thanks for help. Last edited by s60p22; Sep 23rd, 2023 at 11:12. |

Are you sure the noise is coming from the rear?
It sounds like a worn top mount. Did you replace the mounts when you replaced the shocks? The top mounts on the rear are different to front top mounts. Fronts are bearings, whereas the rears are more like a solid piece.

I didn't do the rear suspension, so I'll have to look at it tomorrow, but according to the invoice attached to the car, the rear top mount should be old and only the shock absorber and spring were replaced , I will check it and try it to test it somehow one more time to make sure where the sound coming from and let u know. Thanks

I have doubts that the noise is coming from the rear. I think it may be coming from the front. I suggest checking the front suspension too, particularly the front top mounts and even the springs.
Being honest, rear mounts should have been replaced whilst the shocks were done. They’re bound to be worn, so maybe look into that at some point.

Always a challenge.
In my experience, sway bar links can be easily left undertightened, leading to clunks. Best of luck |

Update
today I was working on the car and I found out that this noise is made by the handbrake shoes, which was already fixed in the service, as I thought, the gentlemen changed the brake shoes, but not the springs and other components , the problem is that he somehow put the old upper spring under the washers and this spring sticks out a lot and thus rubs against the brake disc and thus moves the brake shoes, I just press gently on the brake dust shield and this sound is immediately apparent and the disc starts to jam when turning and you hear exactly the same sounds so in a corner, when the car twists gently, we are clear.... I have some videos and photos of this issue : https://www.kapwing.com/videos/65106c0d4273da0d5a8fe8cd https://www.kapwing.com/videos/65106c4aeefc65447d26286a I will probably buy a new springs kit and will reinstall it. And also in my opinion, the brake shoes should not have such a big play. Tell me your view .. Thanks Last edited by s60p22; Sep 24th, 2023 at 18:15. |

Are they the correct brake shoes? They look quite loose.
Good you found the problem. It didn’t sound brake related from your initial post, but parts can make weird noises that sound like other parts!

that's a poor effort from that garage I have to say
the hook on the far end of those springs gets stretched out and bent particularly in removal when you have to pull them in a few different directions to get them out and if you get angry at them lol although a pro should obviously do less damage but also they're so cheap why would you put old ones back on, clearly they realised it was loose otherwise why put the washers on , that's just a bodge I tried aftermarket ones and tbh wasn't very happy with them. When I went back and took the discs off again for other reasons I planned ahead and put oem volvo ones in, they're much stronger well done finding the cause though always good to cross another one off the list Last edited by stuart bowes; Sep 24th, 2023 at 22:44. |
