Default Water leak into footwell - 2011 XC60

HI all

I recently posted this in the wrong section... So I'm revisiting it!

Anyways to report back, the leak was a windscreen bonding failure. It was fixed by my local dealer under Volvo's Goodwill Program.

So many thanks to Volvo for standing by their product. I love my XC60 and will continue to do so. It's this sort of after sales service that makes all the difference.

Default Australia goodwill lacking

Yes, you were lucky in NZ
Did you have full service history with dealer and/or were you the original owner ? If so, then I suspect that may have helped. The dealer (Archibalds) make a fortune out of servicing and can probably well afford to throw a few crumbs to the plebs now and then.

Volvo in Australia show no goodwill to window screen bonding failures outside original vehicle warranty period, and seemed to think it was OK for a 6 year old car to leak. Luckily in my case the repair was a few hundred dollars and the window screen didn't crack during removal.

The bonding should last the life of the vehicle so for a leak in a 2011 vehicle, it's not for for purpose. This is where our consumer guarantee act can come into play if push comes to shove.

Plus we're a small market here and word-of-mouth is a powerful incentive for dealers to look after their regular customers.

I had the same thing earlier this year and Johnsons Gloucester also replaced it under the Volvo Goodwill - impressed. They successfully took out the old one and rebonded it for free. Not sure what would have happened if they'd broken the screen while removing and whether they'd have then asked for a contribution but all was good. I had exactly the same problems as a few of the threads on here documented. Passenger side leak in footwell and I could ever so slightly see movement if I pushed the top corner of the windscreen. Car was 6.5 years old when it started leaking.

Thanks for the tip. Mine (61 plate with 110k miles) just started to show signs of a leak a few weeks ago, but during heavy overnight rain last night the passenger footwell was flooded this morning when I went to it. Not sure whether my local dealer will be interested as I bought the vehicle second hand from a non franchised dealer. Will also check with Autoglass to see what they can do.

I had my wife's rebonded during the week. As a 2009 model it seems strange it hadn't shown up for previous owner. Anyway, a small independent company did mine at home for £60. That is removal and rebond.

Default Same Issue on 2011 XC60 (private purchase)

Hi @XC70Virgin, do you have the details of the small company you uses (unless they we local only) as have the same issue, water leaking from point on top of windscreen dripping onto passenger seat. Very odd.

Bought from a private seller about 2 weeks ago.

My understanding is its only free if they remove the windscreen & do the resealing without cracking the existing glass.

If the glass cracks, then they aren't responsible & you'll have to cover the cost of a replacement windscreen.

Don't assume its free. Its only free if all goes to plan!
