I'm wondering how long it typically takes for the dealer to prepare a new car for handover once it's delivered to the dealer?
My app seems to be assuming 2-3 weeks, but if I look generally on Google, it says that a week should be more than enough time to prepare a new car? |

I'd have said a week. Our last new car was a week, and it had some horrible vinyls to be removed.
The app is likely configured to allow some wiggle-room, in case they get busy or a few people are ill or what-have-you. |

Is it the dealer or Volvo who actually assigns the registration number? |

The dealer will be sent a list of registration numbers by the DVLA. Some dealers will show customers this list and ask if there is one on that list that the customer prefers other dealers won't bother doing that,if they don't offer the option or the customer has no preference the dealer will just use whatever registration is at the top of the list and just delete them from the list as they are used.
Really depending on time of day the car arrives at the dealership and how busy their workshop is they should be able to turn around a new car delivery in the same day[get it PDI'd registered valeted etc] or the day following the delivery of the car to the dealership,as long as there are no faults to sort out of course. |
