Default -04 Volvo XC90 with OEM mini disc player, modification

Howdy!

I have purchased a -04 Volvo XC90 last week with premium sound pack. This car does not have mini disc, but I see on this instruction that it should be possible to install http://accessories.volvocars.com/en-....H.D/XC90_2003

But then my question is, could I just buy the cable that splits the fibre optic and use that to connect a Dension box and then get an aux (just called MD on the stereo)? Off course after upgrading the software in the stereo to make it believe it actually have a mini disc player.

My dad has a -05 XC90 that has a mini disc player, and he has off course a own selection for MD with the source selector, and that gave me the idea that to connect a Dension box on the MD output and then I will keep the CD-changer.

I previously owned a -05 XC70 that I upgraded to a Kenwood player with navi and then I used a can-bus adapter for steering wheel controls and for working parking sensors and I installed a reverse camera, so I'm no stranger to electronic connections and cable routing :-)

Does anyone have any thoughts if this could work to use the mini disc source as an output for a Dension? Is the idea too good to be true? :-)

Greetings,
Alexander

I'm not sure if the dension would work on the md player slot as it uses the different discs to cget metropolitan the functions on it.

Maybe, I was just thinking that the fibreoptic had the same "language" even if the players are different. But it was worth a shot, because I don't won't an aux if I loose my CD-changer :-)

It maybe worth a try and using the iPod controls but I do know that they say it won't work in an xc90 with out the cd multi changer.

I had the same thought, although I do have the Mini Disk unit already, but of course never
use it. I checked with the Grom people and they said their similar, Aux in, box won't work off the MD MOST input, only the CD MOST input. So using either the Grom or Denison you have to sacrifice the CD player. I guess they wrote the code so that it worked with as many cars as possible. Shame, I'm actually thinking of changing the MD unit for the change tray!

Just remembered that with the dension unit you don't have to sacrifice the cd changer as it comes with a switch that loops it back in so you can choose which you use.
