Replaced C30 Shift Blind...Now No Geartronic
Just replaced my 2009 c30 auto trans shift blind. The old blind was broken into pieces and the old magnet was never found. Cleaned up the broken pieces and purchased a genuine volvo blind...genuine Volvo part (made in Germany) I paid more for it to avoid a cheap Chinese part. Took my time on replacing. Positioned just as shown below (smooth side up, ribbed side down). I think the slider with the magnet can only go into the blind one way.
I never disconnected the trans top circuit board, as there was room enough to simply move it out of the way. Seems to me everything was reassembled correctly. The shifter shifts smoothly, all lights on the faceplate light when the key is turned on including the -M+ light. But now...no geartronic when you shift into -M+. Is it possible that the little magnet may be mounted in the blind incorrectly from the manufacturer? That the magnet polarity may be reversed? That the tiny magnet may need to be "flipped" in it's seat...even with a new blind (in some cases)... so the polarity is correct? I'm at a loss here... anyone have experience with this problem? Any help greatly appreciated. |

The slider part with the magnet is switchable for use on either left or right hand drive cars.
I found out to my cost when fitting it the wrong way after following an American youtube video and mines a UK car. !!! Photo number 2 is not very easy to figure out as it (the photo) looks transposed.

Yes...but that would mean that the slider can only be installed one way depending on your application (Euro or USA).
It would not physically fit otherwise ...correct? Mine was a VOLVO part in a sealed bag with VOLVO printed in blue on the bag and clearly labeled Made In Germany. But I did buy it on AliExpress...so it did get sent from China to get to me. You know... I am beginning to think cheap China knock-off in a counterfeit bag...in my conspiratorial mind. |

Never buy anything from AliExpress if you're after a genuine part. The amount of cheap knock-off cr@p on there is unbelievable. Sadly Amazon is heading the same way.
