Default Sensus Navigation Problems

Hello, so today we made a trip from Leeds to Reading, a distance of around 220 miles. We put our destination into the sat nav and were on our way.

Approximatley halfway through our journey we pulled into a service station and as we were once leaving again the sat nav began recalculating and then failed to recognise our position and showed us on the A5 when infact we were on the M1.

After failing to find an option to re-calibrate or synchronise the GPS we again pulled into the services but this time switched the car off completely and left it for 10 minutes. Shortly after switching back on the Sat nav showed us in the middle of nowhere but then suddenly picked up our location and showed us again in the services.

Allowed time after exiting the services to set the sat nav again and we were fine for the next hour or so until we turned off the M25 and onto the M4, going through the junction passing under another carriageway the nav again became confused and attempted to recalculate however it failed and again showed us travelling in the completely wrong direction and with no deviation. It seems it had failed to recognise our position or had not realised we had joined the route (as it would show the dotted line in the direction of the start of the route)

Was just looking for some advice or anyone who may have had any experience with their nav like this.

Thanks in advance
P.S. I apologise if this is in the wrong section but I couldnt find anywhere else to put it and I assume these cars are the ones most likely to have the nav in them.

Sounds like your maps need an update, what version are you on. Someone will hopefully confirm the latest version, I'm lazy haven't updated mine but it's in for a service soon and if they don't do it then I'll prob update online.

Most likely your GPS aerial in the fin on the roof is faulty . See your dealer ..

Im unsure of the version and cannot get to the car to check right now however I had the same thought that it may just need an update.

If this is the case, the car is still under Warranty so Im assuming the replacement/repair will be covered by this. We will be going to see the dealer as soon as we return to Leeds. Rather worrying in my opinion that this has happened but I havent heard of it from anyone else so for now I'll assume we got slightly unlucky.

Thanks for the replies, I will update on this thread the result from the dealer just incase anyone else has the same issue in the future.

A map update will not change any of the functionality of the system or make the gps work, it will simply provide more accurate data to present.

It would suggest a failure of a component if it is happening all the time, if only occasionally then it could be down to location and weather attenuating the signal to a level which prevents position finding - you could even be unlucky and have hit a time when they are repositioning satellites.

I do regularly now drive through fields according to sensus Nav, and it puts the dots to "dry land", but as I said this is because I haven't updated the maps since purchase. Not saying this is your problem but still find the version number you are on, might help if it's well out of date

Thanks for your input, sounds like a similar issue. Here's a picture from today on the M4 (W) from London towrds Reading:

Clearly inccorect and also is still messed up from the previous day so switching it off and leaving it overnight clearly hasn't done any favours.

Fingers crossed a map update will help things (if at all possible) but I have a feeling the issue is not so simple. Again, I will update the situation as when needed

a map update will prob be only any good if for example you know that section of road has changed in the last few years, otherwise as the other guys say something more serious.

Yes I understand now. I re-read your message and realised it isn't that similar of an issue, as I suppose as you are in N. Yorks there will be roads through fields/rural areas which maybe didnt exist a few years back. I'm now almost certain something is up with the antenna for the GPS. Need to get it looked at asap, for now it will be google maps on the way home tommorow!
