V50 Gearbox replacement

Hello dear fellow Volvo owners,
I have a big problem with our V50 from 2011, the gearbox has broken,
and I'm desperately looking for a way to get it replaced.
At the moment the car is sitting in a garage and the mechanic can't find a replacement box.
A new one from Volvo costs over 5000€ and the problem with a second hand one is to find the exact matching reference.
This is very confusing as some garage say the VIN number is enough to find the right gearbox but my mechanic says it should be the exact same reference.

Any idea where I could look for one ??

Hello, sorry to hear you’re having issues. What transmission does your V50 have? What engine does your V50 have?

Hi, yes it's a 1.6 liter engine, 6 gear manual.

I believe it shares the same gearbox as a Ford Focus of the same year. Both cars have the same underpinning so they might well be compatible. Other than that, it might be worth looking to import a transmission from another country.

As have been said, on the manual V50 with 4 cylinder diesels, it's a Ford gearbox (and usually reliable).

Have a look on e-bay... second hand ones are usually plentiful and cheap. I think you're in France? Just had a quick look and there are several gearboxes from E175 - E700.
