Default Starting issue, v50 2008

Hi guys, my first time on a forum, so please be gentle.
I have a 2008 v50 d5 auto, recently having issues with starter motor not disengaging after engine has started and continuing to run even after the engine has stopped, key out of ignition and starter motor fuse has been pulled!

It is intermittent, sometimes it just blows the fuse, other times you can hear the starter motor wailing when the engine is running, but cutting off the power doesn't always stop it.

I've had the ignition switch and starter motor replaced and the only way around the problem we can see is to fit a relay to the starter motor to cut out the feed once engine has started.

What i'm after is some advice, or access to a wiring diagram to help my mechanic find the problem.

Help!!

Unusual problem but in your situation, I would get a multimeter and tap into the switched live wire that triggers the solenoid.
It should show battery voltage with the key turned and 0v when the key is released.
If that's the case, it sounds like the mechanism inside the solenoid is sticking and continuing to bridge the permanent live with the main starter.
Removing and cleaning the solenoid might work or just replace the solenoid.

Completely agree with the above. The Solenoid can get locked up, sometimes with rust or 'crap' can get in there. Some have a return spring that can get tired with age.

It's one of those jobs where you should have a go. You can probably fix it yourself but worst case you just buy another. If you didn't try you would have to buy one anyway.

Don't forget though if you can't fix it the car will be off the road until you get a replacement.
