Default XC60 Dog Guard Fitting Instructions

I've been hunting around for fitting instructions and like others, not been able to find them.

Someone on Swedespeed gave me the answer, so I thought I'd share here.

The document number is "VCC-471407-4" and this is what you need to Google for.

Part Number: 32204166
Instructions Number: 31659083

Direct link (which will download a PDF document) -

https://accessories.volvocars.com/en...20(18-)-202018

This also covers removing the plastic roof trim pieces and replacing with the metal plates (and what those weird plastic tubes are for).

Posting this to help others.

All you need is a trim removal tool. It took me five minutes to fit.

Thanks Pete, I’ve never been able to find the instructions so have held off buying it.

Does it work well? Any rattling?

The grille looks exactly as the one we had in our XC70.
A very useful accessorie!

No rattling at all, been rock solid ever since I fitted it.

Thanks for getting back to me. I’ve got a couple more questions if you don’t mind:

1) When folded up against the roof, is the grille stable? Are the gas struts strong?
2) Was it easy to remove the original trim pieces? What did you use?

Thanks again

1) When the gate is in the folded up position, it’s really solid - doesn’t rattle, doesn’t go anywhere. Just be aware that you lose about an inch of roof height, but that should be obvious.

2) I bought a trim removal kit from Amazon for a nominal cost. Just needed a bit of manhandling to get the old piece out but nothing serious. You soon get a feel for what’s needed and how. I’m no mechanic and it wasn’t a problem for me.

I’d certainly recommend the official Volvo guard over anything else. The only part you need to think about is getting the guard in the right way around as it’s not completely obvious when you first look at it.

Just to follow up on this, I installed the official Volvo dog guard to my 19 plate XC60 yesterday.

Bought it from the Volvo Parts TMS website, delivered in 48 hours.

The grille itself is very high quality and really looks the part once fitted. I think the 3rd party offerings don’t come close.

Took about 15 mins to fit, a one man job. The instructions linked above are very clear. Hardest part was removing the plastic trim covers over the mounting brackets, took a bit of fiddling with a trim removal tool but once you realise which way you need to press the clips they come off cleanly.

Overall I’m very impressed, wish I’d got it in the first place rather than using a slightly cheaper item that pressed on the headliner and headrests. No rattling and feels very solid. Definitely worth the price.

Yep, exactly my experience there. The instructions are pretty vital though and it’s surprising they’re not included. I guess Volvo would really prefer customers pay them to fit the guard.
