Question On call service required - worth the diagnosis charge?

I've been getting the message pop up 'on call service required' for the last few weeks.

This message does not affect the vehicle, and all of my on call features still seem to work ok (eg I can remote start the car, locate it etc).

I did have a strange issue the other day, when locking the car, all windows would lower themselves. I wondered if this could be anything at all to do with the error I am seeing? I don't want a repeat of that problem, as the risk of a rain soaked car is too high!

Volvo dealerships are charging £200 just for the 1hr diagnostics, and parts and labour are all on top of that figure. Is there any other troubleshooting I can do?

The on call app in the car is up to date (as of today 8 july), as it the app on my phone.

Thanks

This is being reported more and more lately, I had it a month or so ago and the dealer diagnosed the voc/vcm module internal battery required replacing, which did not fix the problem, then they contacted Volvo UK who said it required a software update which sorted it, before getting the battery replaced which is expensive ask for the software update.

Thanks - do you think it's worth just asking for a software update instead of diagnostics first? (how much did a software update cost?)

Software update was covered under my extended warranty, the battery was not. Ask dealer to contact volvo uk for info on the update.

If you have your car serviced properly you get free software updates yearly.

I had it serviced recently, but I only got an 'adaptive service' as the mileage was low for the year. I am not sure if this type of service includes software. All services have been done by volvo dealerships

I think the update was a specific update to fix the problem rather than the service updates, my car has only been serviced by main dealer to keep volvo warranty valid.

https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/20...53788-0001.pdf, known problem in the US for this symptom. Recall in progress, I wonder if Volvo UK are being as generous?
My experience is that everyone has a different solution and all include expensive diagnostics plus other parts being replaced.
