Ok, as per threads on here I tried to get rid of my Volvo On Call Service Required message by pulling out fuse 14 and reinserting.

Did this, with the ignition of, and now the car has completely died after a Brake System Failure Stop Safely message.

Disconnected the battery and reconnected, turned the key and all the normal lights appeared in the dash. Turned again to start the engine and everything dies once again. Lots of clicking from the locks it sounds like, then nothing.

As ever, help is much appreciated.

2006 diesel if that helps.

Regards

Strange but I think I would try disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes and see if that resets things.
Check your handbook re correct procedure for disconnecting/reconnecting battery though.

Same as before alas….key to position 1, all lights come on as normal, turn again to start engine and locks of clicking from the engine area.

Engine not turning at all, and the emissions system yellow light flashes quickly.

Any other thoughts?

You need to be a little careful disconneting/connecting the battery to avoid corrupting or damaging the CEM.

Sensible method is to start car, wind drivers window down, mget out wnd close drivers door, lift boot lid, then reach in and switch off ignition, then wait 10 mins before touching anything to allow all the various modules to go to sleep and the CEM to stop communicating with them. Do not touch anything or open any doors in the meantime.

Then do the battery...

If you have no blown fuses or fusible links and don't have the benefit of VIDA then you have little option but to get it recovered to a dealer or properly equipped specialist.

Disconnect the battery and remove both positive and negative cables. Touch both cables together for 5 seconds then reconnect the battery.

Just saw this post but went out to try again just a few minutes ago.

Unsurprisingly perhaps, bursts straight into life. Mind of its own this beast……

It’s nothing to do with touching the battery cables together, and disconnecting the battery on these cars resets nothing other than the clock and there is no danger of damaging the CEM if you don’t have your thumb in your ear or whatever….

The moment has passed now but sounds very likely a loose connection on the battery meaning voltage falls away under load, if it happens again use a multimeter to check the voltage at say the 12v socket on the dash as you try to start it.

The electronics on the xc90 have aircraft like robustness, it’s almost unheard of to have to change any of the modules unless they have been physically damaged.
