Default Weird acceleration and noises in my car. Advice please

Hi

I have a 2011 XC90

This morning after a cold start, the car felt slightly weird to drive - acceleration not as sharp as normal and juddering every so oftern. Plus whenever I pushed the acceleration pedal there was a whirring (like the fan was coming on noise).
After about 5 minutes I got to a fast road, the car was painfully slow to accelerate and I was worried about causing an obstruction, although we did eventually get to 70mph.

I checked my oil (although car hot) when I got to work this morning and it was very very low. I did top it up, although I have ben told that this was the wrong thing to do as I might now have too much in .....

This afternoon, the car was much worse. Much much more juddering, the acceleration was extremely bad all the time (especially terrible at lower speeds) and the noise was more a windy noise.

I talked to my local garage who reckon it is the DPF (diesel particulate filter). Could the DPF cause all these symptoms?

Any advice you can give will be gratefully received

Thanks

Default Turbo hose - but is the dealer overcharging....

Now that the garage have had my car for 2 full days, they have finally decided to give me a quote....
1) Apparently the main problem is that the turbo hose has fallen off and I need a new one. The hose is quoted at £250
2) On top of that apparently my car is leaking in a huge number of places - leaking oil from gaskets and washers & leaking steering fluid. This apparently requires at least £1500 of repairs including a new oil pump.
3) need a new arm on my steering / suspension - £800
4) need a new top engine mount £150
etc etc etc

The car has been serviced every year since new at the same Volvo dealership garage. I think I might be being suspicious but how did all these problems miraculously appear in the last 10 months (since the last service) and why does a £50 piece of hose which takes 7 minutes to fit (according to a you tube video) cost £250.......

Sounds like you need to get a second opinion.

Get the turbo boost hose replaced so it is driveable and approach your regular service garage about the rest.

When I got my XC90 over 6 months ago it appeared to be leaking power steering fluid from two places - pump and high pressure hose fitting

I cleaned the leak, filled the reservoir, and have monitored it over 6 months. In that time it has leaked maybe 2 drops.
So what looked like a non minor leak was just the result of years of seepage and dirt accumulation. So minor that the best advice was to leave as is and monitor regularly.

So take your engine cover off, use a rag and WD40 and clean all leaking areas then monitor them over a few weeks to see how bad they really are. Maybe your current Volvo service dealer considered them too minor.

As for top engine mount, that is very easy to replace yourself or wait until next service. It is non critical and has nothing to do with the engine running problem

And the steering arm linkage will of course get worse over time until you start wearing tyres badly and failing vehicle inspection. But that has absolutely nothing to do with the engine problem.

I'll second all that. My steering pump has been wet since the day I bought the car.

Just take it step by step. Get the hose fixed then access the leaks with a quick clean up. Engine mount is worth doing but not bad to do yourself
