Default Ship to UK or not.

We drove our 2005 S40 1.8 petrol to Malta three years ago. Now we are going to live part of the year in Scotland and will need a car. We also have an 18 year old Suzuki jeep which will stay in Malta.
I have had the S40 since new and it has been looked after well. It has done 42,000 miles. I cannot sell it here, only scrap it. It is also expensive to tax here. This year 450 euros and goes up each year. But it is cheap to repair and look after here as labour costs are very low. If we keep it here we will sell the jeep and run the Volvo to its end!
So either I keep it here and buy a second hand car in the UK for £6000 or £7000 (a Clio or similar dare I say!!) or ship it over for about £1800 door to door, including getting the scratches done and alloys refurbished out here.
The S40 is a nice car but I wonder as it is nearly 12 years old things will start to go wrong and cost me lots of wonga in the UK! its never had any major..ish repairs to date.
Any thoughts to guide me please?

Better selling Suzuki, you are going to be £210.00 a year to tax the Volvo here

buy a second hand car in the UK for £6000 or £7000 and look at the low tax brackets

I sometimes think this also. But it's nearly twelve years old and probably due some big UK garage bills!

I'd ship the Volvo tbh. £1800 for shipping and to make it mint again against 6-7k. If you sold it over here you'll still get a bit for it. The petrol volvos seem a lot less troublesome than the diesels.

When I was in Malta a few years ago they still had the 1960's buses running, fantastic to see them.
I also noticed there were laid of old rust free Ford's, even mk1 transits still in use!
I often thought about the cost of importing from Malta, you say it's £1800, is that to UK landed and tax paid?

Yes, they are great for extending the life of any vehicle by 20 years over and above what we may think possible.......they are very good at this.
The new buses are okay after a pathetic failed contract with Arriva.....who ended up at the wrong end. A complete comedy.
But anyway...yes £1800, door to door for shipping. No tax other that the normal Road Tax. About £220.

Do the old English bangers fetch much money out there?
Mk1 Escorts are worth a mint over here?
