Default Issue updating map in volvo v70 2011

Hello today I tried to update the maps to my volvo v70 2014 model. I downloaded and installed the correct version for Sensus 2011(RTI) and inserted into the car USB and when I turned on the car the display didnt turn on. It has been black since I turned on the car with the USB inside. After some reading some sources claimed I should turn on the PC and only afterwards insert the USB, even if this is correct surely they have a design which somehow bricks the system if someone inserts the USB before.

The buttonpad I have is without the network sphere symbol, so its for sure the 2011 version of Sensus I have.

I downloaded the navigation maps from here
https://www.volvocars.com/mt/support/downloads/maps

Any ideas how I can get my display back to normal? Its only stays black.

Is this the first time you have tried to update the maps on your Sensus sat nav? If so, you will not be able to do so unless you have the system uprated by Volvo to allow USB map updating. Since this system is not supported anymore and the last map issued for it is already a couple of years old, it would hardly seem worthwhile spending money with Volvo for the update to have an out of date map. Might as well spend the money on an alternative standalone system that can be updated.

That doesn't mean I approve of Volvo's decision. I am angry about their careless lack of support for loyal customers for their cars which they have sold for years on the basis of safety and longevity!

Its the first time ive tried to update the maps using USB, before I borrowed CDs. You think its possible that my system doesnt support USB and therefor somehow the Sensus got messed up and now showing only a black screen?

If it's had the paid dealer S/W upgrade, the S/W version should show 1100 for the car without the globe button. The final maps (Europe) were V30.20.03 (2021 iirc).

Sorry but I don't know what has messed up the Sensus display or how you can clear it. Unless a previous owner had the system uprating done, you will not be able to load maps using USB.

Very expensive... I wouldn't even bother. Just use your phone. It'll have more up-to-date route guidance info anyway.

Yea I know, if I only knew I could get issues this way. I kinda need the display to work though, everything goes through that system not only GPS. I need the display to regulate the AC and radio and everything

Have you had the car at a dealer? I was speaking to a Volvo guy and this generally happens because the usb or the file type of the sat nav update is incorrect. It wipes the system and as the file type is incorrect is unable to re load. This then crashes the system. He did say the vast majority of them are fully recoverable but this obviously requires the know how. A dealer may be able to assist in recovering your unit if they speak to Volvo.

Hey, yes I turned in the car at a volvo dealer, they said I had to replace the whole system. Reading what you said, it sounds like I got scammed? Maybe they could have just reinstalled the system?
