2014 Volvo V40 D3 5cyl - Passenger side leak
Hi guys,
I’m new to the forum so I’m not sure how this goes. I’ve noticed that the passenger side of the engine is absolutely caked in oil, I bought the car back this March with the issue but it was not as serious as it was quite dry. Rest of the engine bay is sparkling clean and has no leaks. Since then I’ve put close to 20k miles on the car and noticed that the area is getting more oily with every trip. I’ve added some pictures to the thread as I can’t figure out what it is. Thank you 2014 Volvo V40 D3 (5cyl) Automatic - 140k miles IMG_2075.jpg IMG_2074.jpg |

Could you take a more zoomed out photo can’t picture where that is.
Easiest first would be to clean with brake cleaner and take for a drive. Then re inspect to see if you can spot where it’s coming from.

The transmission/bell housing is around that area. Are you sure its oil?
Oil leaks can be hard to pinpoint, as sometimes oil can spray all over the place. As mentioned above, clean the area down and see if it if reappears. Could also be a rocker cover gasket seeping on the passenger side. Is it actually using oil?

The engine oil level seems stable to me, at least according to the screen in the instrument cluster. I topped up a couple of months back and it’s still at a bar below full.

Would be a good idea to clean off as much as you can as then should make it easier to work out where it's from.
