V40 D4 oil leak
Hi everyone,
I’m new to this forum and looking for some advice. I have had an oil leak that was advised on my MOT in January, garage looked and told me the engine is “soaked in oil”. I paid for the rocker gasket to be replaced and since then the leak is worse and have had to top up 3 litres in 8 days. I spoke to the garage and they told me to take the car to have the engine cleaned so they can see where the oil is coming from. I am very much a novice when it comes to cars so I don’t want to be ripped off after already having expensive repairs done. Any advice would be helpful. |

If oil is leaking and covering the engine, whether partially or completely, it's standard practice to clean the old oil off the engine to try and trace the leak. If you don't clean the oil off, how will you be able to see where it is coming from?
What work needs doing, and how much it will cost, will depend on the diagnosis when the cause of the leak has been determined. Having said that, if the leak worsened after the garage replaced a gasket, you might be better off finding a different garage. |

Find the source of the leak, that is your best bet and take it from there. If they replaced a gasket and it is worse, then they probably did not replace it correctly if they did.
That's why I do all my work myself. |
