Default Strange error on b230k

After about a year of driving with the manual choke about an inch pulled out i have now found out what the problem was.
First: my 240dl from 87 hesitates on the 3d gear (automatic), poor performance and seems to be running on 3 cylinders at times.
if i pull out the manual choke a bit it runs just fine. (i have adjusted the choke throttle 'puller'thingy so that it only affects the air intake the first inch, wich seems to be enough to get the car running as supposed to)

Anywho, after cleaning the carb, replacing spark plug leads dizzy cap rotor and a bunch of other things i yesterday noticed that my turnsignal wasnt working. A fuse had blown, a 25amp where its supposed to be a 16. altho the car ran fine, i replaced the fuse and ofcourse: the car started to run badly.
Removed the fuse (for turn lights, heated seats, solenoid valve for the overdrive) and the car ran just fine.

On the bunch of cables (sorry, swedish so not sure what its called) that runs along the firewall and through that towards the steering there is 2 cables that the insulation has come off, so the bare copper is exposed.
One blue/red and one green-ish (if im not mistaken)

Blue/red is also the color of the cable that runs to the fuse, so i have now ripped of the fuse, and pulled a new powercable to the blinker-relay so i have my turn signals.

But is there anywone that had a problem with the main cables and how the heck to i replace 1 or 2 cables?

ill post again with a nice lil picture and to answer any questions.

My guess is: the cable for the turn signals is in contact with a cable that goes to the bendix rex ignition system and causing a malfunction in the box. but ill find out more bout that when i start ripping it apart :P

Default cables

we call it the wiring loom but no matter,if you follow the cables on the wiring diagram or even test them where they appear anywhere then when you have found out where they go just run some new wires in along the outer of the loom you can disconnect the damaged ones when you connect the new wires just leave the old ones in the loom they wont hurt anything

Theamania,

Let me know if you need the wiring diagram of a B230K from 1987. I have the very same setup (1987 estate, B230K with Solex-Cisac, Bendix-Rex ignition system) but so far haven't experienced such problems like you.
Wish you best of luck to sort things out,

Laszlo

Thanks yeah that was pretty much the idea i had for replacing those faulty cables. just a pain to lay doublefolded head down feet up under the steeringweel to try and find where the cables comes out.
Havent noticed any problems so far and the car runs like a dream
Think the fuse goes to the buttwarmers and something else thats also stopped working somewhere in the early 90s
So no big loss.

laszlo
You come to the rescue once again, i got some email from you bout a year ago concering the Solex carb, thanks a million once again for those!
(and if you need a car for spare parts gimme a hollar, my volvo is up for sale, nowdays it runs like a beast. and its in örnsköldsvik

Hey Laszlo,

the engine in my 1987mod 240 with a B230K engine wont start at all. I suspect it is the sensor on the flywheel, or at least something with the ignition.

At the moment, I am looking for a wiring diagram for the ignition, but I can only find diagrams for the engines with a sylindrical coil. The coil in my car is black, shaped like a "cube" and sits in the front left of the engine bay.

Hope your'e still here and can help! Thanks!

Hi Kvalsen,

Sure I'm still around but since I have a little daughter not as frequently as before. I've compiled a doc about the B230K Bendix-Rex system, its wiring and how to test its components, might be useful for you (it's in swedish). PM me your email address and I'll send you the pdf file.
Best regards,

Laszlo

thanks a lot! Did you get a message or can it be that I'm not allowed to send any PM's before I've got enough posts in the forum?
