Default Windscreen Replacement

So I’ve had my windscreen replaced today by National Windscreens. They used one branded XYTG (I think). Anyway, the HUD is now out of focus from certain angles, doesn’t seem level and the image elongates as you move your head up and down. It never did this on the original one so suspect I’m going to be having a fight with them and or my insurers. 🙄

It's the wrong screen. I had same problem with Autoglass few years ago. They had to get the right one, genuine volvo, and fit it.

I was in the same position but, after doing some research, decided to pay my local Volvo garage to fit an OEM replacement. I then raised a complaint with the Financial Ombudsman on the basis that non-OEM glass was not tested, could not be proved to be of the same specification as Volvo OEM glass and that third party fitters did not use Volvo recommended adhesive. Volvo stated that non-OEM glass could compromise 20 safety systems. Unofficially, I was told that a 1mm difference in glass thickness could result in 1 metre distance miscalculation. The Ombudsman ruled in my favour and the insurer had to pay me the cost of the OEM replacement (less an excess).

I'm attaching 3 Volvo brochures that might be useful.

Out of interest did they then try and sting you on the renewal?

Conversely I've had a non-oem one for 4ish years and no issues at all and that includes the HUD, lane departure etc.

renewal is in about 3 months and I expect that some vindictiveness might influence the price. Thinks, thanks for comparison sites.

I’ve just spoken to Volvo to have one fitted. In excess of £1600😮😮😮😮😮. Anyway, National Windscreens are investigating my complaint, so will see what they say, then I will go to my insurers and see what they say……

Had a screen on the XC70 done by them in April... its a heated one & has the adaptive cruise/sign recognition etc. They fitted a non OEM one OK, looks fine ( maybe the heating elements slightly more visibile but that might just be my imagination) - although they were unable ( after 3 hours of trying) to calibrate the ADS so i had no lane keeping/cruise control & a red light on the dash.... complaint fell on deaf ears.
Volvo main dealer calibrated the system in just under an hour & charged me £70.
