Default MY19 XC60 Carplay

My MY19 XC60 has twin USB's in the centre console but the software for AA/ACP is not installed on the car. My dealer wants £300 to install it, can it be done by an independent?

Volvo regularly offer it at a reduced price (around £180 I think) I would not pay £300 as it is only a software update in your case. It is a rip off they charge anything for it, many much cheaper small cars have it as standard. Keep an eye on for the Volvo offers and don't let them have your eye out.

Just a suggestion, ask for Smartphone Integration, will give both Carplay and Android Auto, sometimes its cheaper then just getting Carplay

Is that generally a nation wide offer or just certain dealerships?

All dealerships, it is a Volvo nationwide offer when it comes up.

Since it's Year 19 car, I recommend you should just purchase a CarPlay box. It will have fullscreen CarPlay/AndroidAuto, probably around £200 delivered... I installed the box for my 2020 Volvo by following the instruction. If you are not conformable to do that, ask a local garage, it should only take less than 30 minutes for a professional technician.

For comparison, my dealer gave me a Year 24 car while I had my car serviced under warranty. Year 24 car it has Google system. My personal view is the original Sensus + CarPlay is much simpler to use as a package.

Isudar is the box I used, they also have voucher discount at the moment. Support has been great on WhatsApp for installation and after sale questions.

Which ISUDAR box did you use, the link shows a number and I can't work out which one.

Thanks

This looks ideal. A couple of questions if I may:

Did you install the microphone and what is its use?

If you don’t use CarPlay then are the normal functions available like radio and satnav?

If you are not in CarPlay mode and the phone gets a WhatsApp, what happens?

Thanks

David

I was feeling flush after the dealer I bought my v60 from completely missed £4K worth of options so forked out £300 for smartphone integration on top of Sensus.

To be honest, Carplay is a bit underwhelming. The only advantage over standard Sensus is being able to have Google Maps or Waze, but both implementations are slightly restricted so the upgrade on using it directly on your phone in a holder is marginal. Spotify - I prefer the Sensus app to the Carplay app. Quite happy with Carplay in half a screen - it'd need to be better to deserve a full screen.

I called all the volvo independents within an hour's drive - only 1 would do it and they were slightly more than main dealer price.

I'd be tempted to wait for an offer on it - it won't change your life!
