Thanks Welton.
With mine, this is a definite fault. It's not the normal thermostatic behaviour. Once the blower stops, the temperature in the car rapidly rises until it's soon unbearable. Turning the aircon off, then on again fixes it for around 5-10mins, until it happens again. |

Mine's the same but it's worse in that the A/C only lives for about 90 seconds a time. It was better today but still faulty

Can I chip in here with my climate control issue? Was going to start another thread. The climate and ac has been fine until we hit 30 deg the other day. Drove home from work, hot car stood in sun all day. Cooled quickly, all was fine until 20 min later and the ac stopped blowing cold. Got home, left car for a bit, went out again and it was fine for 15 to 20 mins and lost the ac again. Next day did a 3 hour drive up the M6 and it was fine for 2 hours then did the same. Stopped at services, returned to car and it was fine again. It was a bit intermittent later on in standing traffic and a temp of 37 deg outside but once moving at motorway speed it was OK again. Last 2 days it's been fine.
Car is 2004 T5, I have no idea if it's ever been regassed. It blows really cold when working and I suspect maybe an electronics issue on the basis that low refrigerant pressure would just result in the system not using the compressor? Or is it that higher engine speeds mean the compressor runs quicker, raising system pressure, so it works OK? Would a diagnostic on VIDA and/or a software update reset the motors on the various flaps, etc? Bit unsure of the best route to go down before starting to spend £££! Thanks.

I think this might all be the same issue. Mine is cold too (indicating it is sufficiently gassed), then stops.
This U.S. forum thread may help. It's to do with the magnetic clutch getting hot. As soon as I have a diagnosis, I'll post it in this thread. http://www.volvo-forums.com/t26365-a...r-goes-off.htm |

Thanks! That certainly makes sense in terms of the symptoms, heat, works at speed once cooling air is able to circulate round the compressor etc. I'm now quite certain all the little motors to control airflow etc are working (although without VIDA the fine tolerances can't be checked). There could be other sensor issues I guess but a DTC read on the dash display shows "CCM Ready" which I understand means there are no fault codes stored for that particular module. I think for now I will monitor it and see how it behaves with regards to outside temps, under bonnet heat build up in traffic, etc.

If the cars temp gauge hits 23 degrees in my car the A/C cuts off, stupid waste of time climate control. I'm also slightly gutted I've just sold our C30 which my mother (new owner) tells me has lively ice cold A/C. Boils my ****!!!!

Update:
My V50's been with the garage for 4 days. No matter what, they couldn't get the air con to misbehave. I eventually went and tried it myself. Even after standing idling for 45 minutes and a 30 min brisk drive, it all works perfectly.
Beginning to doubt my sanity. It failed every time before. The only thing they did, apparently, was run diagnostics and check for fault codes. Think the climate control was also set to defaults. I will monitor and see if it reoccurs. |

Perhaps it's not hot enough outside? Funny you should say it's fixed as mine has also started to behave though I have asked the garage to check for faults while the car is having the steering failure message sorted!
I'll let you know if they find anything
