Recently had an "incident" caused by ambulance on a shout, in which my tailgate glass was smashed, and plastic shell of tailgate cracked internally. Replaced whole of tailgate, using original wiper, and have experienced similar probs as you, and other posters.
Firstly, old wiper had "stuck" some time back in an odd position. It survived the "incident" (apart from the jet - but that's another story), so thought I would use the observations from this forum to see if I could get it going. Putting ear virtually against wiper motor (when switched on!) could hear a gentle "click. . .click . . .) about every 2 secs. Dismantled motor, and found main spindle had siezed. Lots of plus-gas, allowing time for it to work, eventually freed up. Cleaned up, re-greased, all good.
Secondly, think have sorted "tailgate open" message (fancy that - glass smashed!) and would just like to make the observation that if the braiding in the hinge needs to be cut back, use self-amalgamating tape to replace; neither comes apart nor hardens over time as does insulating tape!
Thirdly, Cargo area light has now ceased to work, as intimated on one of your posts. Cannot trace any switches, sensors, fuses, relays etc. Was not impacted during "incident", and bulb is OK! According to Haynes, the light is "fed" from pin 9 of the "Upper Electronic Control Module".
HELP!

My cargo area light works again now that the tailgate issue is fixed.

If the tailgate is sensed as being open for too long the light extinguishes and won't come back on until the tailgate is sensed as having been closed again. However, I also noticed that my interior lights don't come on during the day - I assume they're light sensitive.

Have you tried opening the tailgate at night?

3/78 is the tail gate lock.
7/137 is rear window track.

This was my wires

If you pull the harness around it can get caught up in the gas spring.

I had issues with my V70 when all the electrics to the rear of the front seats were playing up intermittently. Cutting a long story short it was the wire running from the central ECM to the rear ECM and the two units were not communicating. Took a while to find and that was after I had gone down checking all the wires in the hinge (and fixing them)
