760GLE Estate 2.8 V6 1988 - audio system advice?
Hi, I just became the new owner of a nice 760 GLE estate (2.8 V6) and it's fitted with a non-original CD/radio. I've decided to try to get the car as close as possible to its original state, and wondered which cassette radio systems might have been fitted to this car? It's a 1988 (November) model.
I just joined VOC too. I'm also going to be looking for a few bits and pieces, like a dog guard, headlamp wiper arm for the passenger side and a load cover for the cargo area. Should be fun restoring this old gal Glad to find this group! |

906
I'd guess a 906 or its immediate predecessor. Be warned, parts for them are now VERY rare so there is a serious risk of the tape transport not working - or being unrepairable if it stops working. 906 will run a CD player in the boot, you will need either the Volvo one or an Alpine one and a clever adapter - and of course the long wire. I don't think the 706s will run a CD player. It MAY be possible to use the VOlvo Din outs for the VOlvo graphic and amp to drive a modern sub amp, but stealthing the sub speaker itself is a challenge.
REcommendation: stay modern, or even get a DAB head unit.
