Default How to find an aftermarket stereo which fits?

I'd like to get an android stereo replacement for the HU-605, but I'm unsure how to make sure to pick one which will fit properly into the gap in the dashboard. I'm surprised how much the various measurements vary.

Anyone have any advice?

Also, is Pumpkin a decent brand to go with? They seem quite prolific and with mostly good reviews.

Thanks

I think that the space is nominally a double-DIN, so in theory you've two options - either fit a double-DIN aftermarket unit, or a single-DIN plus a filler panel of some description.

Looking at some photos of the HU-605 it does look as though the plastic front panel tapers from top to bottom. Is this right or just a trick of the light? If so it will be a bit more challenging.

The other issue will be the connectors. A couple of years ago I fitted a Pioneer system into my daughter's Nissan, but finding the right steering wheel control unit was a challenge - it took a fair bit on interwebbing before we got everything working.

Leeds Car Audio on York Road in Leeds might be worth a look - but it depends on how much you plan to invest in your new sound system.

Cheers

Jack

I think the taper is just a trick, but I will double check. Its mostly getting the fascia of a new unit to fit that worries me. There's so many different dimensions I just don't really know what to look for.

Having just finished an electronics degree, I'm reasonably sure I can get the back connections going. Fortunately I don't have steering wheel controls to contend with.

If I'm over Leeds way for anything else soon then I'll stop by, thanks.

Am I right in thinking that this is a phase 2 thing, as I see threads pop up now and again talking about double dins and fascias but a normal size regular stereo just fits straight in the original gap on my p1 with no jiggery pokery at all.

I don't know what counts as "normal size", since every model I've looked at gives different dimensions - that's my issue. I guess as long as the dimensions are smaller than the gap in my dashboard, it'll probably fit and maybe just look odd?

I'm assuming the way the unit slides into the gap is standard...

Hmm, well now I'm unsure, all I know is that I've had at least three different head units in mine of various makes and they've all been the same standard single height size and they've all fitted normally as they would on any other pre weird shaped stereo era vehicle, I thought they were all like this, unless mines been modded, mines identical to this, apart from mine has the wood effect trim.

Ah, that's a single DIN stereo slot. My dashboard looks the same, but the stereo takes up the cubby hole underneath your stereo too, hence 2 DIN. I guess I'm probably overthinking it all; but at over £200, I don't want to get it wrong.

This now makes perfect sense, sorry that I've not been of any help and in fact have probably added more confusion, I'm sure someone who's not an idiot will be along soon haha.
