Hi my Volvo - a v40, '02 - b4184s2 - 303,000km
The other day, driving around 70km/h my engine stopped running, and it did not start again. The starter is running, and there is power on the battery. There was no loud noise or bangs when it stopped, no warning lights - nothing, it just did not take the gas and died out. There are no error codes, and there was nothing overheated or liquid running out. I´am think about look into the fuel pump first: There has been a significant difference between full and empty tank, in respons by the the accelerator pedal. And today, with the key in pos 2, there was no sound from the pump, maybe it said something - but nothing I could hear! And the back seat was raised and the blanket over the cover removed. I have checked the fuse for the pump , it was ok - is there other fuses I should check? I have not been able to locate a relay for the pump. Next I want to put multi-meter on the plug by the pump and see if there is power coming to it? - do anybody know the right pins at the plug to test - and can I check the pump by measure resistens in it? If there are any bids on what may be wrong or how I get it checked through to find the error, I would be very happy! best regards Heine |

A couple of years ago my V40's radiator sprung a very severe leak without warning whilst I was driving and the car came to a complete halt without any hazard warnings.
The car's excellent safety systems would not allow the car to re-start, and so cause any further damage, but there was no obvious signs other than for a large amount of coolant under the car - the water had escaped so quickly there was no time for the engine to overheat and cause it to form steam. Fortunately I was able to get a tow home, replace the radiator (and importantly the jubilee clip connector to the pipe work) and all was OK again. However the problem you describe could well have been caused by another problem (electrics, fuel, etc). My suggestion to save time and expense would be to call out your local 'car rescue organisation' (AA, RAC, Green Flag, etc in the UK) as they will almost certainly track the root cause very quickly. |

Defective fuel pressure regulator on the rail? I would only guess that if it started again later without issue. Good luck troubleshooting. I hope you get it figured out without too much pain.
